< !DOCTYPE html>

Are you planning to take your kids trick or treating on Halloween?  Preparing for the day is tiring when you consider that you typically have to work that day, then get home to prepare costumes. When you are out late at night knocking on doors it gets exhausting.  Not only that, but you know it will be hard to get those kids to sleep at a decent hour after the excitement of trick or treating, plus the mountains of candy that they now have to be excited about.  Plus, somewhere in all of that excitement, dinner must be made.

Remember that first question I asked you? If you said yes to this you are going to want to read these 5 Tips for Surviving Halloween with Little Kids.

  1. Have all costumes ready.  Do not wait until the last minute to get your family’s costumes ready.  Be sure to have all of the costumes and their accessories ready to go the day before so that you are not scrambling at the last minute to try and figure out what you are going to do.
  2. Prepare dinner in advance.  Make sure to put your dinner into the crockpot at the beginning of the day so that you can quickly sit down and eat without the stress of preparing a meal at the same time you are preparing costumes, etc.
  3. Know your route.  Plan your your trick or treating route in advance so that you don’t exhaust yourself going from street to street.
  4. Set time limits.  Set a time limit for your trick or treating adventures.  We always give our kids a 1.5 hour time limit and they always end up with lots of candy in that time frame.  Be sure to make it a friendly time limit for your child’s age.
  5. Set candy limits.  Do not make the mistake of letting your kids eat all of their candy on Halloween night as I am sure they will beg you to let them.  But as any mom knows, this never ends up well.
