By combining store coupons, manufacturer coupons and Register Rewards you can not only get a lot of free stuff at Walgreens but actually make a profit from it! Hopefully, this thread will show you how to do that but if you still have a question please post it as others may have the same question.
What's a 7 day coupon?
A coupon from Walgreens newspaper ad that is good only for that week (Sunday through Saturday).
Can I use both a 7-day coupon AND a manufacturer's coupon on the same product?
Yes. The 7-day coupon is a store coupon and can be combined with a manufacturer's coupon.
Can I use 2 coupons on buy 1 get 1 free items?
Usually. If it's BOGO with a 7-day coupon there should be no problem using 2 manufacturer's coupons on the same item. If it's BOGO without a coupon the first item will ring up regular price and the second will ring up $0. In this situation it varies depending on your store or your cashier since the cashier has to manually enter the coupon.
Does Walgreens take internet printed coupons?
Policies vary by store and by area. Ask at your local store to see if they'll take them or not.
Can I use a 7-Day coupon on more than one of the same item? If so, do I need more than one IV coupon?
Most 7-Day coupons state that you can only use them on one, but in my experience there's no limit. You only need one coupon regardless of how many of the item you buy.
What do the abbreviations you use mean?
There's a great list of couponing abbreviations in this thread:
http://www.pinchingyourpennies.com/forums/showthread.php?t=587
Register Rewards:
Here's the deal with Register Rewards:
* When buying the items, as long as you buy the correct product(s), they're programmed correctly by Walgreens and the register's printer is working properly, the catalina will print. If it doesn't, it's a problem in one of these three areas. It has nothing to do with any coupons you used or anything else.
*see next item if you're trying to use RR to buy the same products*
* You can't roll over the rewards
If you try to do a RR deal a second time and pay for it with the RR from the first time, it won't work. It doesn't matter what else you buy in the same transaction, if the RR were part of your payment, it won't print you new ones. If you want to do the RR deal again and also use the first ones you got as payment on other products, you'll have to do two separate transactions - one for the RR products and one for everything else.
* "Beeping" Rewards
You must buy a product that you have NO coupon on for each Register Reward you use. If you use a 7-day or EasySaver coupon, that counts as a coupon on ONE of those items. So if you have something like a 7-day coupon for 4/$1 candy bars and want to use 2 Register Rewards as payment, you need to buy 3 candy bars - one for the 7-day coupon and one for each of the RR. It makes no difference if the candy bars are .25 and your RR is $5 - it just needs something to attach itself to.
* Buying gift cards
Most of the RR now specifically state that you can't use them to buy gift cards. Other exclusions are usually prescriptions and "items prohibited by law" (in Kansas that's alcohol and tobacco). Occasionally some, such as the recent P&G ones, state that they can't be used on the same brand you just bought.
* It won't pay tax
At least not here. And you can't get money back from them. So your total - after all other coupons and before tax - needs to be as much as the RR you're trying to pay with.
* Using RR at other stores
This is up to the other chain. I'm assuming that the ones that will take them take competitor's coupons. Here, they're only good in Walgreens. Don't expect to be able to use them just anywhere.
* Expirations
Two weeks seems to be the average expiration date. Take this into account when you're doing multiple RR transactions. Consider that you can't roll them over and or buy gift cards. If you get $50 in RR but aren't going to be able to spend them in the next two weeks they're not going to do you any good.

I have never even stepped into a Walgreens, so this is all new to me. Thanks for all the great info. I have just one more question. Can I use a coupon on items that will be free after rebate in the EasySaver? For example, this month they have a rebate for the purchase price paid on Fructis hairstyling products. Can I use a coupon for that item? If so, will they refund me the original price or the price after the coupon? I noticed they don't refund sales tax.

Yes, you can use a coupon on the Free After Rebate (FAR) items and you receive the price paid before the coupon (not including sales tax), therefore resulting in some overage. In addition, if you select to receive your rebate in the form of a gift card you get an additional 10%.

When I got my easysaver book this month, I went through my coupons and matched them up. Is this what others do? If something in the book doesn't come on sale by the end of the month, do you go out and get it anyway, providing it is a decent price?
I emailed wallgreens easy saver for info. They never sent me my august rebate or entertainment cash etc. . and from time to time they send the rebate money but not the premium card or gift cards for example buy $10.00 in pads and get a gift card for $10.00
Anybody else had these problems with them???

Call them and you can usually get results. They have told me in the past if I don't receive it by such a date, to call and they will reissue it. Then I have always received it.

I did the Walgreens rebate for the first time last month. I know its probably not time for me to know anything yet. However I was wanting to know how long it normally takes. This way I will know when to look for something in the mail.

The first rebate usually takes a little longer than subsequent ones (if you chose the gift card option). the first one is usually around 4 weeks and then the subsequent refills to your gift card are around 2 weeks or so.

Thank you. Thats the option I chose. So I'll look for it in a couple of weeks then.
I called them, they somehow sent my stuff to someone else. They stated they would resend mine out again. Hope it arrives.

I still have one additional question as I never have even stepped foot inside this store. Can I buy more than one of the items in the Free After Rebate Items, especially when it has a coupon making it an overage situation. Do I get the rebate on all the items I buy or just on one? Does my question even make sense??
Thanks,

Most of rebates are limited to one per household. Sometimes it way say a higher limit, otherwise assume it's a limit of one.

With the gift cards, after 12 months of non-use a service fee of $2 a month will be deducted. That's what it says on the back of the card. There's also an 800# that you can call to check the balance.
Yes, you can use both a 7 day coupon and a manufacturer's coupon on the same item.

Which do you all prefer, a check or a store card?
Kristi
12-06-2005, 10:06 AM
I prefer the gift card because I get my refund faster but mostly because of the 10% bonus. The bonus more than covers my tax so the items truly are free.

On items that are BOGO with a limit of 4. Does that mean 4 items purchased + 4 free items for a total of 8 items? Or 2 items purchased + 2 free items for a total of 4 items?

It depends on the store/the cashier...The walgreens by me in Kearns doesnt really care about "limits" as long as you dont wipe them out!But I think it means you can get 4 items total including your free items...Just talk to the manager of your store because they are usually pretty nice about expanding the limits if you really want the items.

I just wanted to say that I finally got my Gift Card they had my last name spelled wrong. ( Might be the way I make my letters....LOL).
I do have a couplel of questions though. I have the Gift Card however I have no Walgreens around me. I optained this one whille on vacation.
My questions are
Will it be still good in May of next year? If I decide to trade it can I try to trade it for another card of equal value or have the trader contact me? If I do trade it can I get another one when I move if I decide too, most of the time I will want the check?
I know I will lose 10 % by taking the check, however this is the way I'm going to buy presents next year.
Sorry so long.
TIA
Wendi
Kristi
12-13-2005, 09:38 AM
The card will still be good next May. After 12 months they'll start taking off a monthly service charge until either you use it or there's no balance left. Even with no balance, the card is still rechargeable (meaning you can have future rebates put on the card and not have to wait for them to send a new one).
As far as trading - that would be up to you and whoever you're trading with.
Each time you do the rebates you have a choice of receiving (or reloading) a gift card or receiving a check. You can switch back and forth. If you choose gift card and don't put in the number of a card you have, they'll send you a new one.

I'm trying to do the walgreens rebate for the first time. I need some help, I've never done one before. I bought 2 Garnier fructis shampoos and 2 conditioners on Feb 2nd. It is #1 on the Feb. rebates catalog. It says they will only rebate up to 5.99, so what do I put in the earnings column? Each bottle cost 3.99 a piece., can I only get 3.99 because that was the price of one bottle or can I get 5.99 because I bought 5.99 worth of product? Ok, is that clear as mud? LOL Tia

You put $3.99 in the earnings column. Whatever the receipt shows (before coupons) is what you should put.

I know this is a stupid question, but I will ask any way. Can you use your gift card to buy things that offer another gift card rebate? Like Buy $20 dollars of Dove products and get $10 back. I would think yes, but I am wondering.

This month is the first time I have ever done the Walgreens rebate so I have a question. When you buy stuff at Walgreens do you buy more than just the free after rebate things at the same time? The reason I am asking is because I only bought the free after rebate stuff and I used coupons on them, so when I send in the slips they will show that Walgreens is giving me back $15.50 when I really only paid like $12 for all of it, if I put the purchase price before coupons on the form. If I bought more things then they wouldn't know what had coupons applied to it or not, so then it wouldn't matter. I don't want to get in trouble or be banned from future rebates or something! :embarras: Please help out a newbie! Thanks!
Aimee

Welcome!
You do not have to buy anything else with the free after rebate items. All they are looking at is the price next to the item.
Hope that helps!

I called corporate to clarify and was given the DMs number. Fortunately, our DM and his assistant work really fast, within 30 minutes, the store manager called me and I told him what one of his associates told me and he was profusely apologetic. He told me that the next time, I can ask for him if I needed RCs and he will give me RCs as many as I want. And one more thing, he said if it was a rebate item and they're OOS until the last day of the rebate period, the amount they put on the RC is AFTER rebate price since I can't submit for rebate. now that's what I call excellent customer service!

Here's the deal with Register Rewards:
When buying the items, as long as you buy the correct product(s), they're programmed correctly by Walgreens and the register's printer is working properly, the catalina will print. If it doesn't, it's a problem in one of these three areas. It has nothing to do with any coupons you used or anything else.

If you try to do a RR deal a second time and pay for it with the RR from the first time, it won't work.
Buying gift cards
Most of the RR now specifically state that you can't use them to buy gift cards. Other exclusions are usually prescriptions and "items prohibited by law" (in Kansas that's alcohol and tobacco). Occasionally some, such as the recent P&G ones, state that they can't be used on the same brand you just bought.
It won't pay tax
At least not here. And you can't get money back from them. So your total - after all other coupons and before tax - needs to be as much as the RR you're trying to pay with.

I have always used them to buy gift cards for restraunts. That was before they started printing not to be used on Walgreens Gift cards. Anyone have any thoughts? Months ago when P&G were doing there Great RR I tried to buy a gift card, but they told me every gift card has an activation fee. In other words I was trying to buy a Gift card for Applebee's (or some where else i am not sure) for $25, they were going to charge me an activation fee of $4.95, or there abouts, on top of the $25. Has anyone elese had this problem? Or was this just bad luck that day?

I bought the $25 Shell gas card and there is no activation fee. I got $25 worth and was able to use it at the pump immediately. Store merchants/restaurant cards don't charge an activation fee to use.
I think its the Visa and Master Cards prepaid cards that have an activation fee and each time you reload money into it you have to pay fees again.

this maybe YMMV but the AM in one of my store said although you can't buy a new Walgreens card, it doesn't say you cannot reload the RR into an existing GC. He tried it and it worked. He said the store gets more sale that way so its win-win for the store and customer(s). our store managers are the best!

He said the store gets more sale that way so its win-win for the store and customer(s). our store managers are the best!
Thanks!
That's how I was reading it, just wanted to double check. Thanks for the help! Now off to buy a gift card for tonights dinner!

Mine say this
Excludes RX and items prohibited by law. No cash value. Other store exclusions may apply.
"prohibited by law" will differ from state to state. In some states you can't use them on milk, for example. "Other store exclusions" basically means it's up to the store what they will and won't take them for.
Limit (1) Register Reward per order.
My store lets me use them as long as they scan, but they can rightly refuse to take more than 1 per transaction.
Not redeemable for Walgreens gift cards.
I would take this to mean that you can buy the gift cards for other stores. The "store exclusions may apply" rule may come into play here, though. You'll have to check your particular store to see if they'll let you do this.

I need help. I always thought that you could use a coupon out of the easysaver book and a regular manufacturer coupon on the same item. Tonight when I tried that it would beep so I could choose one or the other. Any ideas on that one. Could it be the order they are wrung in? I know sometimes when you want to use a register reward that has to entered first just wondering. TIA

I usually give the manuf coupons first and then after they have rung them in, I give them the Walgreens coupons. I have fewer problems that way so far!

You can use both and I've never had it make any difference what order they scan them in. Was it the Jane coupon that beeped? If so, I believe that's a problem with the mfg coupon. It beeped when I used it last month, too.

Ack! Okay, I did my first Walgreen's purchase on Saturday. I had an overlap for Feb. and Mar. and I don't have a Walgreen's near me so I did shopping for both rebates... Unfortunately, I am brain dead and they are all on the same receipt... Is it possible to send both forms with the single receipt? tia

Take it back to your store and explain to them that you needed certain products on a different receipt for their rebates. They're usually happy to do a simple return/resell to get you a new receipt. They don't need to mess with coupons or anything since those make no difference for the rebates. Just make sure it's the March product(s) that you do this on so the dates are right.

Has anyone turned in a rebate late (like a week & a half!) I have sent them in a few days after the required postmark date and not had a problem but not a week. Found some in my purse that I thought I had sent. I went ahead and sent them off anyway. Here's hoping, so far they have been great about rebates and I've never had a problem with them.

I did and they didn't process it. I didn't even get a rejection letter.

I've sent mine a couple weeks before with no problems. In fact, I usually have a hard time getting that one out on time. I'm sending Feb rebate out tomorrow, so I'm hoping along with you.

I once did that and called and asked and they said "Oh, we're not sticklers for that. Of course we'll process it!" They were really nice. It was a relief because the week before I had gotten a rejection letter from a P&G rebate. The wording on that one said that all items must be purchased by x date and the rebate must be postmarked by THE SAME date. I bought all my items on the last day of the rebate, but didn't get it postmarked until the next day and they rejected it! I complained that that was stupid because you couldn't possibly buy the items and have it postmarked on the same day, but they stuck to it. That one made me mad. - But Walgreens was great! Good luck!

I have noticed the schiff move free vitamins are buy one get one free. I have a couple of 5$ off, will Walgreens let me apply them? and if I can, can I use 2? Also I am new (obviously) and I am just wondering what are the best websites to print coupons? Is there somewhere on this website that goes into more detail about that stuff other than the coupon101 icon? Also wondering if there is anywhere that will tell you what all the coupon lingo is? for example I am assuming ss is smartsource but what is SS2? Any help is greatly appreciated! thankyou so much

Online rebate submission has gone nationwide!!
You can now submit your rebates here:
http://www.walgreens.com/store/rebateclub.jsp
I added a short section on online submission to the original FAQ post in this thread.
I am so glad they went online with their rebates. It will be much easier now to be sure you will get it!

I sent mine in around 2 days late last time and it was fine. One time I totally forgot about the dealine and didn't realize it until 1 week later. It happened I spent alot that month, so I cheated the system. I waited another week and faxed it in claiming it never showed up in their system. I was ready to return everything if they don't accept it. And since I still have the original receipts, I wasn't going to fight it because I can always return the items if it didn't go through. But it did and I have been sending my rebate in really early.

so just to update. I sent my rebate in almost 2 weeks late and yes, I got the rebate! I was very happy!
I am SO excited about the online submission!! I just sent them an email about a month ago telling them I loved their rebate program but wanted it online and they responded but gave no indication that it would be coming soon. YEAH!

Newbie question...When the weekly ad comes out do they show you the price of an item with their coupon applied already. ie. colagte 360 is on sale now for 2.00 and then I see they have a coupon for 2.00. Does does that mean it is free or it is 2.00 b/c of the coupon. does that make sense?

They will usually show you the price - coupon = sale price
Like the Twizzlers on the back page this week
Sale price 4/$4 less coupon on 4 $1 Final Cost 4/$3
As for the Colgate 360, the coupon and sale don't match. The sale is on the manual, the coupon is for the Sonic Power.

I went to Walgreens today. Transaction #1. Skintimate shave cream, chapsticks naturals, and Mitchum Deo. Got back the 3 RR after paying. Transaction #2, same 3 products plus added 2 Phys Form makeup. Used 3 RR from trans #1 to help pay. After trans #2 done, it didn't give me 3 more RR. Manager told me if you use RR to help pay for your stuff, you don't get more RR back in that transaction. I am new at this, but is this correct. If so, how do you "roll" your RR??? Am I missing something, some rule I didn't see??? I keep seeing posts for rolling RR, but it didn't work for me. :crybaby:

If you used the $3 RR you received for Skintimate to buy more Skintimate, then the RR would not print. However if you used the $3 Skintimate to buy Chapstick naturals and enough fillers to equal $3 than you should still get the $2 RR for the Chapstick. You just can't use an RR to buy the same product or sometimes items from the same company.

Thanx for that clarification. Each week is such a learning experience with all of this. OMG, so overwhelming sometimes, lol. But so glad I have started learning all of this!! I know eventually I will get it, lol.

I just called Walgreens corporate office and they said they weren't going to be price adjusting coupons anymore. The funny thing about that is I called a month ago about the same store and they said they did price adjust coupons. Now they said they are in process of changing it, but I ask why would they do this? They get paid the full value of the coupon from the manufacturer, so wouldn't they rather get MORE money from the coupons by price adjusting it, than just the money from the customer? Also why would they just tell the store managers and not their customers? Maybe I just had an onery customer service representative at Walgreens corporate today, but the one I got last month was so nice and helpful. I am so frustrated!!!! It seems like they change their coupon policy every every second, but they don't let the customers in on what those changes are. They used to be a good to great company, I hope they aren't going downhill now.

I just went to 2 Walgreens and had 2 completely different experiences. The one in NO UT was very unfriendly and insisted on one transaction only without any explanation. I returned the stuff to the shelf and let them know that I wouldn't be back. The Wags in Roy on the other hand was more than willing walk thru the ad with me and explain the "limit 1 coupon printed per offer" means one transaction. I asked about walking out and back in again and was told no but I'm more than welcome to use one per day if I like. Talk about going to the opposite extremes. :freak:

Just needing a clarification since it has been a long time since I have done Walgreens shopping.
Walgreens discontinued the easy saver catolog, right? Does that mean no more rebates at all?
Are IVC's still available? Or just the 7-day coupons in the ad?
Does Walgreens basically just do register rewards now? (I already understand how these work)
Anything else new I need to know?
Thanks! I am doing a class this week on Walgreens and CVS deals and I need to get up to snuff. :)
