Gotta question, I am currently 29 weeks pregnant and within the past two days my gums and teeth having been really hurting. Also, my gums have begun bleeding - this is not when I am brushing my teeth. This is my 3rd pregnany and I have never experienced this. Has anyone else? If so, any suggestions? I see my OB this Friday but wanted to know if I should be concerned. TIA.

You might want to call your dentist. OB's don't have the training for ORAL medical problems. You may have a blood clotting issue or possibly showing signs of anemia (low Iron). The Dentist can prescribe medication or might suggest a vitamin for you to take.
I've heard of bleeding gums in women with Gestational Diabetes. It only occurs when they are pregnant and goes away shortly after birth.
Let us know how it all turns out.

Ugg! Not what I wanting to hear. I am terrified of the dentist. I have been on iron supplements for the past month. I had my Gestational Diabetes test last month. I would have thought that if I had it, they would call me before this appt. Thanks for the info!!!

I'm sorry you hate going to the Dentist. Be honest with your Dentist and tell him that you are horrified. They are understanding and with help ease your fear and anxiety any way they can. It's always better to Go, than to have worse problems down the road.
I always tried to set an example to ease the fear of my little children when they were 2-3 yrs old. I let them watch Mommy be BRAVE and sit in the dentist's chair and when I was done the Dentist would give me a Lollypop. I told them to sit in the chair and when they were done they would get a Lollypop because they were so BRAVE. It worked! Now they don't have a problem going to the Dentist at all.
Sometimes the Dentist can give you Happy Gas to make your visit less painful, so you won't worry so much about going.

My gums bleed a lot when I was pregant. Then the blood would make me throw up. My dentist told me that it was very common for pregnant women to have bleeding gums. He told me to use mouthwash instead of brushing when they would start bleeding. This helped them heal and then I didn't throw up..

A sublingual (under the tongue) b-12 may help. They are about $3 a bottle at wally world. I am not a doctor or dentist but I have a brother that has a problem with this. (And I did severely while preg.) Put 1-2 under your tongue a couple of times a day for a day or 2 and see if that doesn't help. What your body doesn't use you "eliminate" and bleeding gums can be a symptom of vit.B deficiency. Again, I am not a med. practicer ( I can't spell practicioner). Just a humble mom.

Don't immediately assume gestational diabetes just because of your gums bleeding. I had preganancy diabetes three times and never had a problem with my gums or teeth.
