I just had my 20 week ultrasound and they told me I have partial placenta previa, it's not totally covering my cervix, but if it doesn't move, I'll need a c section.
I've been reading other posts and it seems like people usually have gone on bedrest. I would love to hear from everyone who's had this and their experience. Thanks!

I had it at 20 weeks as well and the ultrasould tech told me and had me worried before I even saw my doctor. My doctor said it wasn't completely covering the cervix and more than likely it would move. I had another ultrasound scheduled at 30 weeks and it had moved.

At my 20 week ultrasound I was told I had a low lying placenta, it wasn't covering my cervix but it was very close. My doctor told me that with most women who just have it close or partially covering, it will move. Mine moved by my follow up ultrasound, but I was told if I had any bleeding to call the doctor right away.

My SIL had the same problem with her last pregnancy. But, fortunately, hers moved as well. :biggthum:

I was diagnosed with this at 20 weeks also. I was not put on bedrest but, told to take it easy. At 28 weeks I started to bleed and when I went in they monitored me and sent me home. I had a vaginal ultrasound around 34 weeks and they said it had moved however, at 36 weeks I started hemoraging and had an emergency C-section with a blood transfusion. My advice is to take it easy, make sure your doctor has had experience with placenta previa, and make sure you deliver in a good hospital with a good NICU. I think the odds are in your favor that it will move before your due date. Good luck and feel free to PM with any questions.
I had placenta previa with my first. I didn't ever have bleeding problems and he ended up moving at the end.

I had the same problem with my first baby. In most cases, the placenta will move out of the way due to the growth of the uterus. That being said, it is a potentially dangerous condition and you should not travel more than 30 minutes from your doctor/hospital. Follow your doc's orders!

I was told that I was at risk of Placenta Previa at my 20 week ultrasound, too. I researched EVERYTHING I possibly could to find out what that would mean. I learned that only 4% of moms told there's a possibility of it at 20 weeks actually end up with it at delivery. From what I could gather, the greatest concern was to the mom, not the baby. (For me, that was really good news -- gotta love being a martyr mom! J/K)
Of course, mine moved. Everything's fine. Over all, everything I read said that if you do end up with it, just really try to take it easy. They might put you on bedrest and if you don't stay on bedrest on your own, then they'll force it by hospitalizing you until you prove you'll stay down.
Since I was worried about it and wouldn't know for sure until it was too late to prepare, I did make a bunch of freezer meals so we could at least eat something other than take out without having to rely on everyone else for help or making my husband (who was already stressed) deal with it on his own. It's my mom's theory of prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
Good luck and keep us posted when you can!

Make sure if you do get put on bedrest that you find out exactly what your dr. means. Every Dr. has their own interpretation and it could mean simply taking it easy no lifting resting alot and not necessarily that they expect you to stay in bed. So don't be afraid to ask.

I had the exact same experience as most other women here with my first. It was partially covered at 20 weeks. Checked again at about 36 weeks I think and it had completely moved. No problems at all. :)

I was diagnosed with a low lying placenta at 20 weeks. My dr told me it would probably move on its own and scheduled a sonogram for 26 weeks. I am currently 32 weeks and have been in the hospital for 7 weeks. I started bleeding at 25 weeks and although it stopped and I haven't bled since I have to stay here because I live more than 15 minutes away from the hospital. They won't let me go past 36 weeks to prevent bleeding.

I am so sorry! I started bleeding about the same time, they call it the "first bleed". I lived about 40 minutes from St. Marks and they still let me go home. What hospital are you at? I started hemoraging at about 36 weeks so I am glad they won't let you go past that. I must say I never saw my husband drive so fast. The one thing I wish I had done was banked some blood from my family to have for my blood transfusion. I'm glad they are keeping a good eye on you. Good Luck and I will keep you in my prayers.

I am so sorry too! That is rough to have to stay in the hospital for 7 weeks! Keep us updated!

I know this is from forever ago, but I was wondering how things had turned out?
I was just told today that I have placenta previa (I'm 14 weeks), and am feeling a little scared, though reading these posts has helped me feel a little bit better.

At my 21 week ultrasound, I was told I have a low lying placenta. The doctor told me not to worry. It is very common and most likely will move up with time. They are going to check again at 32 weeks. So, unless you are bleeding, I wouldn't worry too much about it right now.
