Default Walgreens FAQ

By combining store coupons, manufacturer coupons and Register Rewards you can not only get a lot of free stuff at Walgreens but actually make a profit from it! Hopefully, this thread will show you how to do that but if you still have a question please post it as others may have the same question.

What's a 7 day coupon?
A coupon from Walgreens newspaper ad that is good only for that week (Sunday through Saturday).

Can I use both a 7-day coupon AND a manufacturer's coupon on the same product?
Yes. The 7-day coupon is a store coupon and can be combined with a manufacturer's coupon. Just make sure you have the same number of items as coupons. If you have 1 item, 1 7-day coupon and 1 manufacturer coupon the register will not accept both coupons. You will need to add another item to your order to make sure there are 2 items total and 2 coupons total.

Can I use 2 coupons on buy 1 get 1 free items?
NO. You may only use a coupon the item you purchase. If your coupons is off 2, say $1/2, you will need to get 4 items. Your $1/2 coupon will be used on the 2 you purchase, and the other 2 items will be free with the store promo.

Does Walgreens take internet printed coupons?
Policies vary by store and by area. Ask at your local store to see if they'll take them or not.

Can I use a 7-Day coupon on more than one of the same item? If so, do I need more than one IV coupon?
Most 7-Day coupons state that you can only use them on one, but in my experience there's no limit. You only need one coupon regardless of how many of the item you buy.

What do the abbreviations you use mean?
There's a great list of couponing abbreviations in this thread:
http://www.pinchingyourpennies.com/...hread.php?t=587

Register Rewards:
Here's the deal with Register Rewards:

* When buying the items, as long as you buy the correct product(s), they're programmed correctly by Walgreens and the register's printer is working properly, the catalina will print. If it doesn't, it's a problem in one of these three areas. It has nothing to do with any coupons you used or anything else.
*see next item if you're trying to use RR to buy the same products*

* "Beeping" Rewards
You must buy a product that you have NO coupon on for each Register Reward you use. If you use a 7-day or EasySaver coupon, that counts as a coupon on ONE of those items. So if you have something like a 7-day coupon for 4/$1 candy bars and want to use 2 Register Rewards as payment, you need to buy 3 candy bars - one for the 7-day coupon and one for each of the RR. It makes no difference if the candy bars are .25 and your RR is $5 - it just needs something to attach itself to.

* Buying gift cards
Most of the RR now specifically state that you can't use them to buy gift cards. Other exclusions are usually prescriptions and "items prohibited by law" (in Kansas that's alcohol and tobacco). Occasionally some, such as the recent P&G ones, state that they can't be used on the same brand you just bought.

* It won't pay tax
At least not here. And you can't get money back from them. So your total - after all other coupons and before tax - needs to be as much as the RR you're trying to pay with.

* Using RR at other stores
This is up to the other chain. I'm assuming that the ones that will take them take competitor's coupons. Here, they're only good in Walgreens. Don't expect to be able to use them just anywhere.

* Expirations
Two weeks seems to be the average expiration date. Take this into account when you're doing multiple RR transactions. Consider that you can't roll them over and or buy gift cards. If you get $50 in RR but aren't going to be able to spend them in the next two weeks they're not going to do you any good.

Default Can I use a coupon on items that are free at Walgreens?

I have never even stepped into a Walgreens, so this is all new to me. Thanks for all the great info. I have just one more question. Can I use a coupon on items that will be free after rebate in the EasySaver? For example, this month they have a rebate for the purchase price paid on Fructis hairstyling products. Can I use a coupon for that item? If so, will they refund me the original price or the price after the coupon? I noticed they don't refund sales tax.

Yes, you can use a coupon on the Free After Rebate (FAR) items and you receive the price paid before the coupon (not including sales tax), therefore resulting in some overage. In addition, if you select to receive your rebate in the form of a gift card you get an additional 10%.

When I got my easysaver book this month, I went through my coupons and matched them up. Is this what others do? If something in the book doesn't come on sale by the end of the month, do you go out and get it anyway, providing it is a decent price?

Call them and you can usually get results. They have told me in the past if I don't receive it by such a date, to call and they will reissue it. Then I have always received it.

I did the Walgreens rebate for the first time last month. I know its probably not time for me to know anything yet. However I was wanting to know how long it normally takes. This way I will know when to look for something in the mail.

The first rebate usually takes a little longer than subsequent ones (if you chose the gift card option). the first one is usually around 4 weeks and then the subsequent refills to your gift card are around 2 weeks or so.
