Default Difference between 6 and 6x size for child

What is the difference between childrens size 6 and 6x? I just bought my daughter some Levi brand jeans size 6 and they are a little big in the waist, but they have the adjustable waistband so they will be fine there. They are just right in length, which worries me because that means she will probably grow out of the length sooner than she can get real good wear out of them. Are 6x longer? But also bigger everywhere else? Thanks!

From my past purchases, 6x are a little longer and a little bigger in the waist. But since so many are going to the adjustable waist (thank you people!) I mostly buy the 6x for the length.

Yes, the 6X seems to be a bit bigger all the way around. My girl is in a 6 and the 6X is too big and too long.

Does anyone know why there are both 6 and 6X? This is what I have wondered about. None of the other sizes are like that, so is that size during the year that they expect a big growth spurt. I say a year since my daughter follows the sizes pretty much exactly with her age.

6X is the mystery size they created instead of calling it 7 and making the 7 an 8, etc. Now why can't they do that to women's sizes so we feel so much better about our size. Instead of wearing an 8 or 10 we could just wear a 4X or 6X. Suddenly, we would feel a little skinnier!!

It sounds kind of like the difference between 4 and 4T for boys. The 4T's fit DS perfectly in the waist but are way too short. The 4's are great on the length but waaaaay to big at the waist.

thanks for all the input everyone. It looks as though I need to probably gey 6x for the length and compensate in the waist.

They do make size 7 in kids sizes. I have to get them in slims to fit my kids. For two of my kids I have to get slims with the adjustable waistband so they can be made smaller. I remember those days for myself! LOL My kids are tall and skinny, so they usually have to wear a size larger than their age to get the right length.

While we're at it, what's the difference between 24 months and 2T? I bought a 24M and a 2T flannel shirt, both same brand, and the 2T was maybe 1/16" longer in the sleeve, but they were the exact same size.
