Today’s Argument: You might become a slave to coupons.

My Opinion: Can you hear me snorting from where you’re sitting? Sorry, “slave to coupons.” Again the author brings up the lack of choice once you start couponing. Such a weird perspective – that we give up my free will once we start couponing.

I believe her point here is that we might have a difficult time purchasing items at full price once we become coupon savvy. Well, she is right. After I had been couponing for several months I went on a trip. I did not take any snack items with me thinking I’d just buy stuff once I got there. I went into the store to purchase some cheese & crackers and a few other snacky items and I had major sticker shock. I hadn’t paid full price for crackers in so long that I just could not believe they were $4+ a box or some outrageous thing. I rarely have made that mistake since then. I tend to take snack items with me when possible.

However, this does not mean that I never spend full price on things. For example, my (adorable) nephews were staying with me last Summer. On my way to take them home we stopped at a gas station for gas. They asked if they could buy a treat. Pringles at a gas station! Whew! But I love these children and one of the reasons that I am frugal is so that I can occasionally splurge. I buy my nephews treats, I buy nice handbags and sunglasses (although I do buy them from 6pm.com so they are still screamin’ deals!). I splurge!

I don’t let my couponing keep me from enjoying life. In fact, I feel that couponing has freed me to enjoy my life even more!

  1. OK so today I went to town to get some expiring coupon deals. Keep in mind that I dont’ go out to eat because it is really something that I can not afford. Because I coupon I got a free lunch from Arby’s! If I didn’t coupon I would have had to wait till I got home!

  2. That is awesome! There IS such a thing as a free lunch! 🙂
