Taking a Nice Photo
I have a DSLR camera and it takes really nice pictures, but I am still trying to learn how to use it.

I need to take a picture of my DD at her school either Thursday or Friday. This would be an outside picture, and she would be facing west.

What is the best time of day to get a good picture?

Evening would be best for someone facing west. Right now I would say 6:00-7 would be a good time. Turn off your flash.

Thank you! That was my guess, not at dusk but before dusk, but my DD thought maybe in the morning. I'll try not to rub it in too much that I was right! :)

You can play with your ISO setting on your DSLR camera if you would like to take a good quality picture by dusk even facing west. Playing with your ISO can create good quality pictures even the lighting does not seem right.

There's a lot of things to explore on your DSLR and not adjust yourself to the time of the day but you can adjust your DSLR on taking nice images any time of the day.

Here's a quick tip on how to deal with your camera's ISO settings.

Good luck!

If she is facing west she is going to be squinting in the picture if you do it in the evening, just a thought.

I'll tell you what we ended up doing.

We took some pictures of her facing west right after the sun went behind the mountain. They turned out really nice. We got there a little before the sun went down, and we waited for the sun, otherwise she would have been squinting a lot.

We went back the next morning before the sun was up very high in the sky so it was kind of behind the building. DD believed they would still be better than the ones the night before (she was being very picky). They turned out really nice too.

So I guess we were both right....there's a first time for everything! ;)

Morning time would be the best I guess so.

All times are GMT -6. The time now is 01:05 PM.
