Homemade Granola Bars

If your stockpile is anything like mine, you have a lot of oatmeal sitting there.  While we do eat oatmeal quite often, I was looking for a different way to use it up.  I came across my grandmother’s granola recipe and decided to try to adapt it to bars so my husband could take them to work with him for a snack.

To start with, take 4 cups of regular oats

Add in 1/4 cup flax seed (using half of a 1/2 cup measurer if your lovely 4 yr old has hidden your measuring cups!)

and 1/4 cup wheat bran (or wheat germ)

2/3 cup brown sugar-firmly packed

1 tsp Baking Soda & 1tsp Vanilla Extract

1 tsp Vanilla

Mix well,

Add in 1/4 Cup Molasses 1/2 Cup Honey and 1 cup butter or margerine softened.  Mixture will be hard to mix.

Add in 2 cups of your favorite treats.  We added raisns, sunflower seeds and mini chocolate chips

Press into greasted 9 x 13 cake pan and bake at 435* for 20-30 minutes, until golden brown

When cool, cut into 16 pieces and enjoy!  These fit great into the "snack sized" ziplocks, and also were great wrapped in saran wrap
