It’s Spring Cleaning Time

I guess it’s Spring now.  Time to start getting my spring cleaning underway.  Spring cleaning is a big job, but for me it’s kind of fun.  It’s nice to have a nice fresh clean home.  I’ll share some things that I do every year for spring cleaning and maybe something will help you.

The first thing I do for spring cleaning, is just clean up.  Get things put in the rooms where it goes.  I like to get my kids involved in this.  We usually each grab a laundry basket and we go through the house and grab things that belong to us and put them away.  Then we will each take an extra room, like my daughter will find things that belong in the bathroom and she’ll get that put away.  That’s the first step.

The next thing I do is take down curtain and get them washing. Luckily all of the curtains that we have are machine washable.  You will want to check labels for proper care.  While they are washing I start one by one taking down blinds and washing them.  The smaller ones I just wash in the bathtub, the larger ones we take out to the driveway and spray them off. While they are off the windows we clean the inside of the windows and the window tracks.

While I am doing blinds (sometimes with my husband’s help) I get my kids wiping the outside of cabinets, walls and baseboards.  I forgot to mention that I love cleaning with Pine-Sol.  I buy lots of it for spring cleaning.

For the upper parts of the walls I use a swiffer type sweeper with a rag over it and and clean the walls.  Scrubbing out the fridge and removing everything from the pantry and wiping everything down in there is next.  Also, don’t forget to clean the top of the fridge.

I get my kids cleaning the kitchen table and chairs really good.  We take the table out of the kitchen so we can clean the floor good.  It seems like when we do the day to day cleaning we miss the parts of the floor under the table legs. Then we vacuum and move furniture as needed.

Then my favorite part of spring cleaning that we do every year, is I paint my front door and the jam and casing around the front door.  It’s nice to have that so fresh and sometimes it’s fun to change the door color.  I also always either make or buy something new to hang on the front door.

Other than vacuuming I didn’t touch on the carpet.  We have a local carpet cleaning company that I have come in the spring and fall every year.

Of all of the spring cleaning jobs around our house I have to say that my least favorite part is cleaning our big blinds.  What is your favorite part or least favorite part of spring cleaning?
