I have the taste buds of a six-year-old. Meaning, that I am one picky eater! Recently, I have realized that while I have never really loved that old adage, “You are what you eat.” Still, there is some truth in it. And so I am on the hunt for vegetables that aren’t “blechy.”
I decided that I would search websites for ideas on how to get your picky children to eat vegetables and I would draw on those ideas for myself. One of the first things I decided to try was the “green” smoothie. If you google them you will find many recipes. Some are definitely better (and less veg) than others. Here is one I have modified to work for me and my supertaster taste buds.
Strawberry Banana Green Smoothie
1/2 C almond milk
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 ripe banana
1/2 C (or more) frozen strawberries
Loose handful of baby spinach
Blend in personal blender (gotta love the Magic Bullet!) until smoothie consistency – adding more strawberries or almond milk as necessary.
I love, love, love my smoothies (my daughter also loves them – she adds a little sweetener) and cannot believe the energy I have from them. My body is completely thrilled to be getting iron! Have a picky child? Try a green smoothie!

My family has a great recipe for a smothie that you wouldn’t know had spinach in it by the taste. In a blender add 1/2 of an orange, 1/4 of a lime, 1/4 of a pineapple (frozen works too), 1/2 can of white grape juice concentrate undiluted, about 1 c. of ice and a hand full of spinach and blend until smooth. Delicious!!
