Every Saturday morning is like Christmas for me!
That’s because I get to make a morning trip to see what surprises await me in my Bountiful Basket.
This was today’s haul

For $15 plus $1.50 handling fee I got:
2 heads of romaine lettuce
1 bunch of rainbow swiss chard
6 ears of corn on the cob
8oz. mushrooms
3 Anaheim peppers
1 lb bag of carrots
4 tomatoes
3 mangoes
6 oz blackberries
1 cantaloupe
6 bananas
4 apples
Bountiful Baskets is a volunteer based produce coop.
Visit their website HERE to see of they have a location near you.
This is such a fantastic way to put fresh produce on your dinner table for a really great price. There are a limited number of baskets available at each location so ordering one is a little like playing the lottery each week. Be sure to log in on Monday mornings at 10 am in Utah and Noon everywhere else to make your contribution to get a basket the following Saturday morning.
On Saturday morning you go to your pickup location and transfer your share of produce from their baskets into your own container to take it home. Two reusable shopping bags work for us. Many people bring their own laundry basket or cardboard box.
Volunteers are the critical part of this coop. Every few weeks you should try to get to your pickup location an hour early and volunteer to help sort and fill baskets. Volunteers also get one or two additional items for their efforts.
The picture above is a “conventional basket”. There are also organic baskets available for an additional $10 and there are always a few “add ons” to be had. These might be cases of various produce, breads, tortillas and “ethnic packs” such as Italian, Mexican, Tropical, etc.
And of course you can count on PYP forums to have a discussion on any hot deal out there. Bountiful Baskets is no exception. Check out these discussions to see what PYPers are saying about this great coop.

  1. I run a similar co-op out of my home. Its nice because it’s on $15 and I get to pick all the produce we get each week. It worked out well for me and my neighbors. I love co-ops!!!
