How to Save Money on International Flights

It’s summer time which means a lot of people are traveling. Do you have any plans? We recently bought tickets to Europe and boy did it cost a lot of money! However, it was a lot cheaper than it could have been. Here are four tips that helped us save a lot of money for our Europe trip.

  1. Track your prices. If you don’t know how much the airfare is, then you won’t know what a good deal is. Check out Google Flights and see how much it is right now. The cool thing about Google Flights is that you can see prices a few months out. You can start tracking your destination and get notifications for when it drops in price. I’ve noticed that a good time frame to buy tickets is 3 months before your departure date. They usually go on sale. Obviously, if you see a great price before that 3 month time window, then snag it!
  2. Be Flexible. As you can see in Google Flights, certain days are cheaper than other days and certain weeks are cheaper than others. If you have the option to be flexible with your departure and return date then you can save so much money. Even if you pick a date that is $50 cheaper and you  have a family of 6, you just saved $300! Every little bit adds up, so grab a low priced date if possible.
  3. Use Credit Card Points. If you have a credit card that gives you travel rewards then use it! We were able to get 1 ticket round trip for FREE with our credit card points. That definitely helps if you are traveling internationally since prices are usually more expensive than domestic travel.
  4. Compare Nearby Airports. Traveling internationally may give you more airport options that are pretty close to each other. Be sure to check all airports that are close to your destination city. For example, If you want to fly into Zurich, Switzerland but the prices are super expensive, check out other close by airports like Munich, Geneva, and even Frankfort. If the prices are significantly lower and a plane ticket and a quick train ticket would be cheaper, then do it! Trains are super useful and could help you enjoy the scenery all while saving some money.

End of Year Teacher Gift Ideas- 2022

It’s almost summer break, can you believe it? This school year has seriously flown by. However, I’m excited for those lazy summer mornings again. If you have a few more days or weeks left of school, you’re probably getting those last minute teacher gifts. I’ve found over the years that I never do the same gift twice. I usually switch it up every year depending on my teachers personalities and likes. It doesn’t take a lot of money to show your appreciation for your teachers. Here are a few ideas that will help you out.

Hand written notes from student AND parent. I’ve heard time and time again that this is a teacher favorite. Most teachers will keep these notes and maybe read them again on those challenging days. Have your student write a specific experience or quality that they have enjoyed this year, and you do the same.

Plant or Succulent.  Give your teachers some greenery. This could be a pot and flowers that they could keep in their house/room or a plant they could actually plant in their yard. A cute succulent in a container could be an easy option. Plus, they are easy to take care of!

Gift Cards or Attraction Pass. As the year goes on you probably get to know your teacher pretty well. You’ll know if he likes his diet coke or if she gets her nails done regularly. Why not get a gift card to a specific place they will actually use? If you want to switch it up and think outside of the box, then why not a few passes to an attraction near you. If your teacher has kids, look into your local zoo, aquarium or museums.

Spa in a Bag. This can definitely be on a budget. Think of how much you want to spend and then put in as many items as you can on your budget. Just grab a bag from the dollar store and add in some of these ideas. Some fun ideas could include: bath bombs, lotions, bath candles, bath salt, nail polish, nail clippers, travel size hand sanitizer or lotions, cotton balls, lip scrub, lip gloss, face mask/scrub, hair scrunchies, hair conditioners, hair clips, or brushes.

Customized stationary and new pens. Believe it or not, this is something teachers love. Get some fun pens for the teacher to use and make the stationary with their name on it or favorite quote. You can find some cute ones here.

Food. Yes, it’s true. Most teachers have their favorite treats and drinks. Grab a few of their favorites and put a bow on it. Write a cute letter and done! I’ve heard of people grabbing Chili’s fresh salsa and a bag of their chips. Or, find a fun local restaurant and grab a unique dessert. As long as you know their food restrictions, food is always a win-win.

School Graduation Gift Ideas 2022

It’s that time of year when school graduations are in full swing. I keep getting graduation announcements and I love it. The hard thing is to know what to get these graduates. Here are a few ideas that vary in amounts. So if you have a little more money to spend, then choose one of those. But if you’re on a budget then choose a more affordable option.

  1. Money. This is something that every student would love to have. You could be creative and get a lot of dollar bits, roll them up and make a flower bouquet out of money. There are a lot of fun ways to give money here.
  2. Survival Kit for College. If your graduate is planning to go to college, then make a cute survival kit for college. This could me in a cute container filled with things like: pencils, paper, gift cards to fast food restaurants, hand sanitizer, cash, markers, Chapstick, lint roller, scissors, ear plugs, sleep mask, band aids and cup of noodles. You can find them all here.
  3. Gift Cards. If you know your graduates favorite place to eat then get a gift card there. If you don’t then check out the college town on google maps and see what fast food lactations are there. Grab a few gift cards they could use for meals.
  4. Books. You could give your graduate a book like “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” By Dr. Seuss. Be sure to leave a hand written note in the inside of the cover. There are a lot of these fun books here.
  5. Hand written note. If money is tight, then this is the perfect option for a graduation gift.  Graduating is a BIG achievement. They put in a lot of work and it’s a great time to acknowledge that. Write them a note from your heart. It’s something that can mean the world to these graduates.
  6. Customized key chain. Most graduates are driving. So why not grab a customized key chain they could bring with them. It could be a funny one to make them laugh or a more sentimental one to help them through their next stage of life. You can find some cute ones here.
  7. Car wash gift card. Speaking of cars and graduates. I know a few that have saved up their money to buy a car. That car means a lot to them. Why not grab a gift card to a local car wash place. This may sound funny, but I know a lot of them would LOVE this.

5 Meaningful Mother’s Day Gifts Your Mom is Sure to Love

Mother’s Day is approaching quickly. If you haven’t found the perfect gift idea, that’s okay. When I’m thinking of Mother’s Day gifts, I like to think what my mom does throughout the day and what I could get her to make life more fun and/or easier. My mom loves going on walks and looking at flowers. So most years we take the time to head to a local flower nursery, buy some plants or bushes and then we help her plant them.
Taking TIME to be with your mom is key. You could just buy here something, but the gift would be more meaningful if you actually did the next step too. So here are some thoughts to take that normal gift idea and make it more meaningful.

  1. Plant or Bush. Each year my mom asks for an annual or perennial or a bush that she can plant in her yard. We plan a date that we can go together to pick out which flower and plants she wants that year. We then take the next step and plant these in her yard. We get to spend time AND she get’s a beautiful yard.
  2. Gift Card to her favorite lunch or dinner spot. To make make this one more meaningful, after giving her the gift card, plan a date where you can go with them to lunch or dinner. Believe me, your mom would LOVE to have you go with her to her favorite eating spot.
  3. Make an outside space for your mom. This may seem daunting, but it can be super easy and fast. Think of a place your mom likes to sit outside, then make that space dreamy! Buy a rug and new outdoor pillows, or buy a planter with plants and an outdoor lantern. If your mom doesn’t have a place to be outside, then maybe start with an outdoor chair and a cute pillow. You can find them here at Home Depot. You can go over to your  moms home and create this space as her gift. Being outside is so good for the body. It could also be a place where other’s can sit with her and have great conversations.
  4. Shopping Spree. Instead of just buying your mom a new shirt or blouse. Go shopping together! Take her to a fun store that has clothes she would love and help her find an outfit that she is comfortable in and looks great in. Sometimes moms need a little encouragement to buy a new outfit. This would be a fun time together!
  5. Updated pictures.  This one might seem to simple, but believe me, mom’s LOVE seeing pictures of their family every day around their house. Most grandparents have lots of pictures of their family around their home. How about you help them update them! My mom was just talking about how she wanted an updated picture of all of her kids and their families. It’s so much more fun if you were to get those pictures printed out and then help your mom put them where she wants. That way everyday she can see new pictures of her family. While you’re putting up pictures stick in the oven some brownies or cookies. That is always fun too.

Utah Readers: How to Score an Awesome Deal on Bike Helmets for the Whole Family!

The weather is warming up which means the kids are outside a lot more. My kids love riding their bikes and I realized this year that their heads have outgrown their helmets. Kids get tempted to ride bikes without helmets if they don’t fit or they are uncomfortable. As parents, buying a new helmet might not be a priority or in the budget. However, wearing a helmet is SO important. It literally can save your life.

For my Utah readers, I have a great way to save money on helmets for the whole family. Robert J Debry and associates offers Bike Helmets Toddler & Child for $5 and Youth & Adult for $10. That’s a steal! These are brand new BELL Bike Helmets. I recently went to the Millcreek location and bought new helmets for the kiddos. They were SO excited and I was SO excited because it cost a fraction of what I would pay at the stores.

There are three Robert J Debry locations that offer this deal. You can find the information here. Please be sure to call your location before you go just to be sure they have some in stock.

For those of you who won’t live in Utah, maybe do a quick search in your location for injury lawyers and see if they offer the same deal. They just might. Let’s be safe this summer by wearing our helmets.

8 Unique Easter Egg Hunts Your Kids Will Love

Easter is just around the corner. I have to admit, when I was little I was never super fond of Easter Eggs hunts. It seemed like I was always the one at the end who couldn’t find those last few eggs. It was only months down the road that those eggs would show up! So that’s where they were! However, being a mom of little kids, I have to give in and do egg hunts every year. Most years it seems like we end up doing one with each side of the family so MORE egg hunts for us! I will admit it is pretty fun to see the kids eyes light up with excitement as they find those eggs. So, if they are happy, I’m happy. Here are 8 unique Easter Egg hunt ideas that just may have you (and me!) a little more excited for egg hunts this year.

  1. Scavenger Egg Hunt: Write a clue in the first egg that will direct them to the next egg. Continue with this for however long you want until they get to the last clue with the prize/presents at the end. You could even make a scavenger hunt for each kid if they are old enough to do them on their own.
  2. Color Code Eggs: This is a tradition in my family. Every Easter morning we are given a color that is our color for the egg hunt. That means we can only find those eggs that have stickers with our color on it. If we see an egg with a different color sticker on it, then we leave it and don’t tell anyone. We have a number of how many eggs/prizes we get to find. This helps with those little kids that may need some “easy” hiding places. Put those out in the open and hide the older kids a little harder. This way you can also get the same amount of eggs/prizes for every kid. No fighting!
  3. Gold Easter Egg: Tell the kids that during their hunt they each get to find one Gold Easter Egg. Inside put something special and personal. Like “Date night with mom & dad” or “Late Night with Friends” or “Let’s go to the Movies!” Something that would help you spend more time with them. This gives a little more excitement to the hunt as well.
  4. Tag Team Easter Egg Hunt: If you are having an egg hunt with a big family, this is super fun! Split the group into even teams. Then you say “Go!” the first person from each team runs and finds an egg and brings it back. They tag the next person on the team and then they go find an egg. The first team to get through their whole team either once or twice (depending on how many eggs you have) wins.
  5. The REAL Egg Hunt: Does anyone ever use REAL eggs anymore? I feel like they are mostly plastic now days. But with this hunt you need to make and dye Easter Eggs. Which is half the fun, right?? Once they are dyed and decorated then hide them in designated location. Have each person try to find a certain number of eggs and none of them can be ones that they made. This is super fun at the end to see the designs of other people.
  6. In the Dark Egg Hunt: This is super fun for those older kids that may think they are done with eggs hunts. Put small pieces of glow sticks in Easter eggs and hide them around the yard when it’s dark outside. You can then let them outside and see who can get the most or just let them go for it. It makes it pretty cool looking too.
  7. Let’s Move! Egg Hunt: In each egg have an action or exercise that they need to accomplish before going on to the next egg. It’s funny to watch them go find the eggs. You’ll suddenly see them start doing jumping jacks, somersaults, cartwheels, jumping and running. If you need to get energy out or if you don’t want more candy, this is a great way to do it!
  8. Puzzle Egg Hunt: Buy a puzzle that is appropriate for your age group. When you buy it you need to put it together first and then write your secret message on the back. It could be a rhyme or poem describing where they can find their end treasure. Then put 1 piece of the puzzle in each egg. The kids have to work together to find all of the eggs and then put the puzzle together. They then need to solve the question on the back of the puzzle and go find their prize. So fun!

Things to Do on Your Staycation this Spring Break

This year we’ve decided to stay home during spring break and do some fun things locally. As I’ve been writing our list it’s pretty easy to come up with some fun things that won’t break the bank. Here are a few ideas you could do with your family this spring break no matter where you live!

  1. Visit a local museum. We recently got the PBS kids pass which lets us go to a variety of museums. If you haven’t done this before, the be sure to check back in October to get yours next year. It’s a fun one! If you don’t have a PBS kids pass you could check out Groupon and see which museums are included near you.
  2. Look for Easter Egg Scavenger Hunts near you. Since this week is close to Easter I know a lot of different places are doing scavenger hunts. Do a quick Google search for one near you! For example, if you live in Utah you should check out Hill Airforce Base. They have a fun scavenger hunt going on right now and it’s FREE!
  3. Be outside! If you’re having good weather then grab your kites, pickleball set or go find a new park. Being outside is the best during the days. Plus, it will help get your kids energy out.
  4. Baby Animal Days. Spring is the time for baby animal days at every Farm. Look for a local place that has baby animals you could go and pet and feed. My kids love doing this! It’s something different to do.
  5. Library. Keep your kids reading this week and go to the library for new books. My kids love having the time to read. You could even go outside and lay on a blanket while you read.
  6. Family Fun Centers. Again, this would be a great time to check out Groupon for a fun center near you. We have a Boondocks near us so this is the fun center of choice for my kiddos. This could be your activity that may cost a bit more, but the kids will love it. We have decided to go bowling this spring break together. It’s so fun!
  7. Family movie nights. If you’re out and about during the days, then a nice quiet movie night in the evening is perfect. Grab a few treats and find a fun movie to watch together.

Our Favorite Things to Take on a Road Trip From the Dollar Store!

We’re coming up on spring break which for us means… ROAD TRIP! We’re excited to get away for a bit but I also know it can make for a long day in the car. So to help keep our sanity I made a trip to the dollar store to stock up on some new and fun things for the kids to do. The dollar store (or dollar twenty five store now) did not disappoint. Let me show you some of my favorite items I found!

They have some awesome sensory toys right now. You’ll find Pop It’s, bendy tubes, bubble bracelets, gummy toys and more. We stuck to getting these kilk & snap sensory toys pictured above to give them some variety from all the pop it’s they already have.

They also have an assortment of kids favorite games. These are great travel size so the kids can pull them out onto a cookie sheet or clipboard to play. It will hopefully help break up the hours of driving.

If you have some older kids these would be awesome to snag. They have different brain teaser 3-D Wooden Puzzles they can work on.

I might regret getting this for our long car ride but hopefully it will be entertaining. I remember having one of these as a kid and it was always fun to see how many we could recall.

View iDraw Begtinner Series Instructional Books,

These will be fun for the kids to learn how to draw in as well as the couple of coloring books and funny face sticker books I snagged. Don’t forget to checkout their adult coloring books you can pick up for yourself.

I also love these felt fun kids made by Crayola. They’re great to use over and over to create different scenes and let them use their imagination. Each kit includes one 11×9-in. reusable felt board.

Hopefully these fun new things will help make the road trip a little more manageable. Don’t forget to checkout our tips on how to keep your sanity on your next road trip!

Ways to Save Gas on Your Next Road Trip!

There’s lots of information out there on different ways you can save on gas but today I have some for you that you might not have thought of. We recently packed up the kids and took our family 1400 miles and while driving I started realizing there are ways we could have planned a little better to save ourselves even more money. Here’s what I came up with;

Make sure you pack right. What I mean is if you have a full car on the inside and need to carry some of it outside of our vehicle try borrowing or purchasing a luggage hitch that goes behind the car rather than one on top. Cars are made to be aerodynamic to give you better gas mileage. But when you change the shape and add something that’s wind resistant to the top, you’re causing your car to work harder to go faster costing you money. Also make sure you pack as light as possible!

Next you’ll want to watch the weather. This became a big deal when it came to our gas mileage. At the beginning of our trip we spend about 5 hours in a head on wind meaning our car was working against the storm to get us where we were going. So if you’re able to be a little flexible try to watch the weather and stay away from stormy, windy days.

Get your car tuned up. Set up an appointment with your local auto repair shop before you head out on your road trip. Make sure all your fluids are full and let them know you’ll be traveling beforehand so they can check and make sure you’re good to go. It’s not fun having the car breakdown on your way to your destination. Also don’t forget to check your tire pressure!

Make sure you know the roads and avoid any toll roads. We ran into this issue when we were traveling back east and unknown to us we had entered a toll road and ended up having to pay the price to drive on it. For locals who know the roads, they know where they are but if this is your first time traveling the area make sure you plan ahead.

Know when to use the cruise control. Using your cruise control while on straightaways is great as long as there’s no hills. If you’re traveling through the mountains and rolling hills turn off the cruise control and maintain the speed in a more efficient way. Learn to coast instead of brake and pump your breaks.

Enjoy the trip and remember these few tips to help you save on your gas!

5 Easy Ways to Save Money on Gas

Gas prices are rising and it’s getting hard to keep up with them! This past weekend I’ve been driving a lot and notice how gas prices are really hurting my budget. So I’ve come up with 5 different ways to save money on gas. These are easy things you can do that in the long run will save you big.

  1. Carpool. This is such a lifesaver for both time and money. Often times you may only think of carpooling to work, but do you think about carpooling to other activities? I have four kids that play different sports and do different activities. Finding a friend that I can carpool with saves me so much time and money, especially now that gas is so expensive. If I can share those drives to kids’ activities I’m saving so much gas.
  2. Use public transportation or other modes of transportation. Not driving your car is the way to save a ton a money on gas, right? So try to find some ways to get here and there without driving your car. Can you walk more? Can you bike more? Changing your mentality of always driving can save you so much money. Try walking the kids to school or riding bikes to the library. For longer distances look into your public transportation.
  3. Shop with Rewards. I shop at my local Kroger store called Smith’s. This store offers fuel rewards points when I make purchases. Since I’m shopping their anyways, I might as well earn some fuel points that can then save me money at the pump. I do need to clip the coupons, so be aware of those grocery stores you shop at and clip those fuel coupons if available.
  4. Check & Compare Prices. When I was traveling this weekend I was in a town where the gas station right off the freeway was $1 per gallon MORE than a  gas station  1 mile off of the freeway. It was definitely worth it for me to drive that extra mile to snag that much lower price on gas. Be aware of prices near you and go to those cheaper places, even when you’re traveling.
  5. Use Gas Apps. Have you hard of Gas Buddy? It’s an app that helps you compare gas prices near you. Give it a try and see what you think. This would definitely come in handy when you’re traveling and as prices keep changing.

4 Fun Things to do in Orlando that are NOT Amusement Parks!

We recently went to Orlando, Florida and had the best time. When you think of Orlando the first things you may think of are Disney World and Universal Studios. Those are super fun places but also SO expensive. If you want to enjoy the warm Florida sun during the winter, there are still so many fun things to do that don’t involve an amusement park. Check these out:

  1. Boggy Creek boat ride with gem mining. We were able to score a Groupon for this fun adventure. Our kids loved the boat ride and then mining for gems. You can choose different adventures there. It was fun to be in the swamps and see alligators!
  2. Rainforest Cafe. If you haven’t been to this cafe, try it out. The ambiance is so fun your kids will love it. The way that we were able to save money on our meal was to grab gift cards from MyPoints. If you haven’t used MyPoints before, you can sign up here for free and start earning FREE gift cards to fun places like Rainforest Cafe.
  3. Beach Day. You can’t go to Florida and not see the beach and ocean. Our favorite beaches are Cocoa beach and Clearwater beach. They are on opposite sides of the peninsula, so check out which ever one is closest to where you are staying.
  4. ICON Park. This park is not your normal park. If you want to go to some fun museums and activities, check this place out! It has the wax museum, aquarium, trains, Ferris wheel and more. There are deals on this park so be sure to check out the packages they offer. If you don’t want to spend money, then head here and walk along the park. They have some fun bridges and water to walk by. You could even grab a treat from the vendors.

5 Fun & FREE Things to Do on St. Patrick’s Day with Your Family

St. Patrick’s Day is next week. It’s a fun and simple holiday, but the kids seem to LOVE it. This is one holiday that you can do a few simple activities that don’t cost any money and still  make it so fun. Here are 5 different things you can do with the family that are absolutely free!

  1. Green Dance Party. This is a super fun and easy activity. Everyone can dress in green and then turn off the lights – or most of them- and turn up the music!
  2. Scavenger hunt around your house/yard. Our kids absolutely love doing these hunts. You can place clues around the house and have them find them. You could add pieces of candy or a treat at the end. Find the pot of gold at the end of the scavenger hunt!
  3. Home Made treats. There are so many fun treats to make for St. Patrick’s Day. You could find a fun one on Pinterest and make them with your kids. These treats could even be the treat at the end of the scavenger hunt.
  4. Read Library Books that celebrate this holiday. There are some fun books about Leprechauns and finding a pot of gold as well as more historical ones.
  5. Play charades. We love playing charades as a family. You can write a few words that are fun to act out like Leprechaun, Ireland, St. Patrick’s Day, Green, Charms, Shooting stars and more.

If you still need some green shirts for St. Patrick’s Day, check out Old Navy where a lot of them are on sale.
