You all know how I love random obscure holidays. You know the ones, the holidays that you hear about on the internet or in your email. Today is one of those days and it sounds like a very fun one! Today, August 31st is National Trail Mix Day. It’s a day devoted to that yummy snack that is versatile and yummy. It is a great day to ditch your diet and have a snack or two. Sometimes it is nutritious and sometimes it is not. Is it crunchy, salty or sweet? Is it fruity? How about chocolaty or otherwise gooey? Maybe it is spicy? There are so many kids of trail mix to choose from if you want to indulge on National Trail Mix Day.
We love trail mix at our house. I love to pack it for my kids to snack on at their sporting events or practices. Each of my kids likes their trail mix made a little bit differently. Some of them like fruit and others don’t. One of them likes it a bit spicy. They all like trail mix when there are chocolate chips or M&Ms in it. Trail mix is portable and easy to make in a hurry. Sometimes we get a little creative with our trail mix and make cookies out of it. We have a really fun trail mix cookie recipe. My kids all love these cookies. This is another fun way to enjoy trail mix. Have you tried Trail Mix Cookies? If not, it is a great idea to celebrate National Trail Mix Day. If you try the recipe, let us know how you liked it. Are you busy with back to school or kids activities and schedules? Is it hard to find the time to think about other things? It is for me! Sometimes the crazy busy of back to school and kids activities makes it hard to do some of the other things we usually do like bargain hunting and shopping. This is by far one of my favorite money saving things that saves time too – I love ordering meats from Zaycon Fresh. It saves money and I think the products they sell are really great!
Why would someone buy from Zaycon Fresh? For me, there are so many reasons. They sell great fresh meats including chicken, beef, turkey, pork and fish. I think buying meat in bulk saves money and time. My reasons sound a lot like the three great reasons that Zaycon Fresh lists on their website:
1) Quality: We only sell what we eat ourselves— high-quality, healthy food products
2) Price: Fresh, high-quality retail food products sold for wholesale prices
3) Customer Service: Exceptional service all along the way, from order to reminder to convenient, efficient pickup.
I have to say that I agree with what they claim. Their meats really do seem to be top quality and their customer service it great! It is so easy to get the great deals from Zaycon Fresh. On the day of your local Zaycon Fresh sales event, you bring your order confirmation to your pick up location and you get your fresh, delicious, nutritious food!
Details about two of the most popular Zaycon Fresh products:
The Zaycon Fresh chicken breasts are sold by the case. Each case weighs 40 pounds and includes four separate bags of chicken breasts, which are not always sealed and not uniform in weight. The larger outer bag is sealed in the cardboard case. The chicken is 100% natural chicken with no added hormones, additives or artificial ingredients. The chicken is fresh directly from the farm to the sales event and has never been frozen.
The Zaycon Fresh ground beef is fresh 93/7 and super lean. It is 100% grown in the USA. There is no pink slime in the Zaycon Fresh ground beef. There are no chemicals, additives or water added to meat during processing. The beef cattle have a grass diet which is supplemented by grain after they reach approximately 700 pounds.

Did you know today is National Waffle Day? Finding out today was National Waffle Day got me thinking about waffles. Does your family like waffles? My family LOVES waffles for breakfast and while we don’t have them on school days, the weekend provides a great time to have waffles for breakfast occasionally. (I don’t count the frozen, boxed waffles we might eat on weekdays as real waffles.) We like to change up the recipes we use and change up the toppings too. We love topping with fruit and yogurt, peanut butter and syrup, chocolate chips and other yummy things. Sound good?
Want to celebrate National Waffle Day by making waffles? There are two things you need to make great waffles. You need a good waffle maker and a good waffle recipe. If you don’t have a good waffle maker, you can get one almost anywhere. It doesn’t take an expensive waffle maker to get good waffles. The waffle maker just needs to cook evenly and release the waffle easily. Take a look at the waffle makers on Amazon if you are in the market for a new waffle maker. If your current waffle maker sticks to the waffles a bit, use some cooking spray to help them release. Make sure you don’t overfill the waffle maker, doing that can prevent the waffle maker from cooking evenly.
If you need a good recipe to make on National Waffle Day check out the recipes below. They are a few of my family’s favorites. If you use one, let us know what you think. We love to hear from you!
