Halloween Tradition: The Halloween Magic Bag + freebie!

For many years when my boys were younger, we had a tradition called “The Halloween Witch” that I learned about in a parenting class. The kids, after trick-or-treating, would leave their candy (or as much as was determined) that evening and the next morning in it’s place are new books. It worked great for several years, but when my first daughter was young knowing the ‘witch’ was coming into our house to get the candy really scared her. So, I changed the tradtion to the ‘magic Halloween bag’ instead. It was been really fun for my kids, plus their candy intake is limited.

I made this bag using scraps of fabric and ribbon. I didn’t really measure I just kept sewing as big as I wanted the bag to be. I made a drawstring for the top using ribbon and sewing a casing for it. I attached this cute poem I found and made it into a cute print on my computer.

It’s always fun to Trick or Treat!
With lots of yummy things to eat!
Like M & M’s and Licorice,
Handfuls from a candy dish!
But all that candy can’t be great!
It might give you a tummy ache.
So toss it in,
And close it tight!
And when you go to sleep at night
This magic bag has a surprise!
It turns your candy into a PRIZE!
