In my family we are trying to be more prepared for emergencies. One way we are doing this is to have a good food storage in place. Our ultimate goal is to have a one year food storage. Most of this consists of long-term items, like wheat and other grains and pastas, sugar, oils, etc. We also try to have a short-term food storage, more like a 3-4 month supply of what we use on a regular basis on had as well. We find that by doing this, we are giving ourselves peace of mind as well as being smart with our regular meal planning. But these past few years I have struggled with a good way to organized what I have and how to keep track of it. Well, I found something that works great for us, and it might for you too!
StockupFood.com is a FREE resource for you to keep track of your food storage! All you do is enter how many people are in your family, what you have, and how many months you want storage for. It tells you where you are at immediately!
It literally took me just minutes to find out how much storage we have. I am currently working towards a year’s worth of food storage for my family. I found out I am 40% towards my goal of having a years worth of food storage for my family. All you do is add in what you have, then subtract out what you use. It is very user friendly. Here is part of me page and what it looks like. (Click to enlarge).

Richard and Linda Eyre may be the most prominent and popular writers and speakers in the world on the topics of family and parenting. Among their three dozen books are Teaching your Children Values, the first book in 50 years (since Dr. Spock’s Baby and Child Card) to hit #1 on the New York Times Bestseller list, and How to Talk to Your Child about Sex, which has become the standard resource for parents around the world in teaching their children about intimacy. About as far removed from ivory tower theories as you can get, the Eyres work is based on the real life experience of raising 9 children, founding and running 3 businesses, and trying to keep up with high level involvement in politics, church, music, and sports.
Rather than being called “experts the Eyres would rather be known as ”fellow-strugglers” who have been lucky enough to reflect and write on what they have learned–both from experience and from presenting to and interacting with parents in all 50 states and in more than 50 countries around the globe.
I found out about the Eyres several years ago and have loved their books every since. My husband and I personally have used the How to Talk to Your Child about Sex book with our children, and we have loved that approach with our kids so far. The way the Eyre’s write is very down to earth, yet also to-the-point. Their books make me feel like I can be a good parent, and make me want to try harder. Some of other books of their’s that I like are, The Entitlement Trap (AMAZING book that I think is a MUST read!), and I Didn’t Mean to be a Witch.
When asked why they are offering their books for free or so steeply discounted, they said,
“Parenting is difficult today—harder and fraught with more challenges than at any time in history. Owner’s manuals don’t come with kids, and most parents don’t have time to analytically and deliberately calculate a family and parenting strategy to match the needs of their kids and the trauma of our times. We have been able to do exactly that analysis and strategizing because of the freedom and access that some of our bestselling books have given us.
Because books have been good to us, we are now at a point where we want to give back, and to give their content to the growing number of parents who need help. We think families are the basic unit of our society and of our economy and we believe that the most important work anyone does is within the walls of his or her home and that no other success can compensate for failure in the family. Thus if anything we have learned, or done, or written can be of help to parents trying to do their best by their children…we are happy to give it.”
If you haven’t heard of Richard or Linda Eyre or read any of their parenting books, now is a great time to start! There are over 20 books they have written FREE online! They have also made many other of their books very affordable through Kindle for only $2 and they are working to get many other available for only $5 for the actual book. Check it out, I know you will love them.
