It’s time for some more tips from the Pinching Your Pennies Forum, Making Cents of Life! Today I searched through the threads and found tips from several different PYP members on how you can save money when doing your laundry! You might pick up a new tip today. Get familiar with your electric company’s varying charges based on time of day (especially in the summer). Use this info along with timers on your appliances to use them at the cheapest part of the day. We do this on both the dishwasher and the washing machine, generally having them come on at 2 or 3 a.m.

As my children were growing up, we never had cable television. Then, a few years ago, both of my kids moved out (yes, the same year! *sniff*). When they left, we decided to get cable. Some kind of midlife crisis or something, I don’t know.

Well, we’ve decided that the price of cable is just too high with all of the other options out there. With our Xbox 360* we can access Netflix, Hulu Plus and Amazon Instant. The three of these put together are still far cheaper than Cable and will cover more than enough entertainment for our family.
