Hosting Holiday gathering is great, but let’s be real. It’s A LOT of work. I just hosted Thanksgiving at my house and I was so tired I was ready to sleep by 7:30 that day and relaxed the entire day after.
To show your Holiday host how much you appreciate them for opening their home to you, you can bring them a festive gift. Here are some ideas for clever and festive ways to say thank you this year!
I have found all of the following to be a hit when it comes to thanking holiday hosts.
Everyone loves flowers, right? Find them a cute bouquet of flowers already in a vase (they don’t need more work on their plate). Flowers are a great way to brighten a home so many hosts love them.
Food is one of my favorite gifts to give. I like to make cookies, cocoa mixes, and more for gifts in general so I think these are already a great idea. If you are attending a dinner party though you can bring a dessert or dish that will pair well with the meal.
Grab a nice bottle of wine or your guests preferred alcohol (hard cider is always a fun one over the holidays). Add a personalized thank you tag for an added bonus.
To show your appreciation, you can give your host a thank you card. You can even send them an e-thank you card. This is a low cost way to show your appreciation.
Sometimes something as simple as taking someone off to the side to say thank you is enough. I know that this Thanksgiving I had several people stop to say “thank you for all of your hard work this year, it does not go unnoticed” hearing this from my friends and family made it worth all the work.

Okay, so Halloween is tomorrow and after that? It’s officially the holiday season, my friends! Are you feeling it? Are you the type of person who gets in the holiday spirit the moment that November begins? Are you planning to host a holiday party this year?
Whether you are new at hosting a party or you just haven’t done so in a while, you may enjoy this list of tips on how to prepare for hosting holiday gatherings. I’m not huge on the party scene typically, but I am absolutely ready to celebrate so I’m all in this year.
I hate hate hate shopping at the last minute. I don’t care if it is shopping for gifts, drinks or food. Shopping at the last minute adds so much unnecessary stress. Be sure to shop early for your food and necessities for your holiday gatherings. Knowing you have everything ready to go in advance will make all the difference.
Do you know if your guests have any food restrictions or allergies? Make sure you are prepared for it by having a variety of food options. No you don’t have to cook everything, but having at least a small selection will help everyone enjoy their time at your holiday party.
My daughter and I both have some pretty severe food allergies so we often don’t get to enjoy party food, but we do have some friends and family members that make sure to have some options for us to eat when they have us over. It makes all the difference for us.
If you are planning a celebration that will include alcoholic beverages, make sure you include some non alcoholic drinks to what you are offering guests. There will likely be non-drinkers there and it’s always nice to be included!
Don’t be so stressed out with the party planning and all of the specifics that you forget to enjoy yourself! This party is for your guests, yes, but it’s for you too! Make sure you take time to remember that.

The holidays are coming, the holidays are coming!!! I know, it’s absolutely mind boggling, right?! We are just days away from Halloween though and that means we have less than a month until Thanksgiving and less than 2 months until Christmas!
You know what else that means? It means you should probably start getting ready for all of those holiday guests that are heading your way! Well, if you are hosting that is? Are you hosting the holidays this year? Let’s get you ready!
I bet you didn’t think that the word relax would make it on this list, right? I get it, I get it. Houseguests can be stressful (In-laws, anyone), but here’s the thing. People are going to be visiting you to visit you. Don’t get so stressed about this visit that it takes away the fun of catching up with your loved ones.
When starting to get your home ready for guests, tell yourself that it doesn’t need to be perfect. Your focus should be to make it comfortable.
Do you have pets? You might start thinking about dedicating a space for your pets so that they can have their own area. Your guests may have pet allergies, or your pets may just not be in the mood to deal with people that they don’t know. I know your pet is family too, but sometimes it is best to allow for some separation.
I have the best dog in the whole world. She loves my family and my children more than anything, but she doesn’t love it when guests are over. She gets very anxious and she starts to behave a lot differently than typical. Whenever we have houseguests, we keep our bedroom door shut and our dog gets the run of our room and space. It always works out perfectly.
It’s so much fun to visit with our loved ones when they are visiting. It’s the perfect time to plan outings and activities. Keep in mind though that your guests might just want to do a little relaxing too! Your calendar doesn’t have to be booked fully to have a great time.
The holidays add so much extra to our lives. By extra, I mean extra everything. Extra work, extra expenses, extra needs, extra activities, extra love, extra fun and more! Now that I have written the word extra more times than I could have ever expected, let’s talk about how to deal with all of the extra food that you will be bringing this holiday!
With all of the extra food that you need to stock up on, you might want to take a little bit of time to prep your pantry for the holidays. The following tips will help get your pantry ready for all of the extra food that you’ll be bringing in and help you to lower your stress a little bit.
You know as well as I do that there is going to be some stuff in that pantry that is either expired, or you just simply know that you are never going to use it. Toss it out and free up some space!
As far as what to do with the clean out items, check out these ideas:
Now that you have gotten rid of stuff that doesn’t belong, it’s time to literally clean it. Grab a washcloth and wipe down the shelves, sweep the floor, vacuum out the corners, etc.
Now that your pantry is cleaned out, it’s time to reorganize. This step will make the next step (inventory) much easier. Plus, it just looks great!
It’s inventory time! Before you head out to go shopping, make sure you know what is already in your pantry so you don’t buy anything that you don’t need.
It’s a good idea to take a picture of your pantry too. While it may seem odd, you can look back at it while you are grocery shopping in case you forget what you have at home.
Now that you have gotten rid of the stuff you don’t need and organized everything beautifully, it’s time to make a list of what you need for the holidays and head out to go shopping!
The holidays for some people are incredibly difficult. Whether you are alone and stressed about dealing with the holidays like that, or you have to go be surrounded by a large group of people that bring you stress or anxiety, I understand! I understand all of these stresses. I have been in a different place during many different years of my life so I truly do get it.
That being said, it is not impossible to stay sane this holiday season. How? You ask. Well, here are my favorite tips for staying sane during the holidays:
Do you have a stressful time dealing with the holidays? What tips do you have for others going through it?

If your family and friends are anything like mine, they like to drop by unannounced a lot. Never more so though than during the holiday season. The problem though is that I have kids and work and life so my house didn’t use to be what I would call guest-ready all the time. I kind of went with the “excuse the mess” motto for years. But, now that I have gotten older and more aware of how I present myself and my family, I do my best to keep my home guest-ready as often as I can. That is not to say it is always like this, but I do my best.
If you are ready to step up your guest readiness game, here are 5 tips for keeping your home guest-ready:
Keep scented candles on hand. Even if your house isn’t perfectly clean, it’s nice when it smells good. Choose a nice, but not overbearing smell that will make your guests feel comfortable. I currently have some pumpkin spice candles that I bought on clearance and I have gotten so many compliments on how good the house smells.
Coming up on the holidays can be very stressful. Instead of letting that stress overwhelm you, why not make a plan to have everyone help? The kids don’t just have to hang out watching TV and playing video games, there are quite a few things that they can do to help you get stuff ready for all of the celebration.
Here are 5 ways your kids can help with holiday preparation:
The holidays are officially upon us! That means that the kids will be home from school. So, what do you plan on doing while they are off. I’m sure you want to do more than just sitting in front of the TV (no judgment if that is what you want to do, my kids are home and doing that exact thing as I type). If you want to get the kids out of the rut of just sitting around though, there are some awesome things that you can do with them while they are off this week.
Here is a list that I put together of 5 things that you can do with your kids during their break:
With the holidays coming up, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed with the idea of spending too much time with family that you may not love being around at the time. As sad as it is, sometimes family causes a lot of unnecessary stress and drama to your life. Whether it is because of situations that have occurred in the past or because of conflicting personalities, the holidays can go smoothly when you follow these tips on how to tolerate your family this holiday.
I am a big believer in not going overboard during the holidays, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t know how easy it is to do. When my children were very young I found myself splurging on the gifts because I wanted them to have just the best time ever! I didn’t really focus on the reality that my children were young enough that there was no way that they were going to remember the days at all! Since then I have significantly pared down my holidays and I partially do so by preparing in advance.
Here are 5 ways for you to prepare for the holidays now so yours can be simple and non-stressful.
Set a budget. Set a budget now and stick to it. If you know exactly how much you have to spend and you follow that budget strictly, you will have no stress about going into debt for Christmas.
Gift Closet. If you haven’t started a gift closet now, start one now. A gift closet is a closet or a box or a cabinet where you store gifts that you buy throughout the year. This is where I buy clearance items or other great deals and keep them to give away as gifts for Christmas or for birthdays.
Start Crafting. If you are creative, start getting your craft one my friends! Homemade gifts are always a big hit and they really help to curb your budget.
Plan your schedule. Get together with other family members and start planning holiday events, parties, etc. I like planning these things a couple months in advance so that you can pick up decor and supplies spread out over time to save money and keep it less overwhelming.
Relax. Seriously, relax. You still have time and as long as you start slowly, this holiday season will be smooth sailing!
Halloween is coming up!! Okay, I know we are still technically in Summer, but Halloween will sneak up on us before we know it. Let’s all get prepared, shall we?
If you want to plan now to keep yourself from blowing your budget, check out these tips below on how to celebrate Halloween on the cheap:
Swap Costumes. Do you have friends with kids? Why not have a costume swap with them. Your kids won’t be wearing the same costume they did last year, but you won’t have to buy them either.
Homemade costumes. Check out Pinterest or do a good Google search for costume ideas and you will found thousands and thousands of costume ideas, many of which are low cost and super easy.
Use coupons. Coupons, coupons, coupons! I know we are always preaching coupons around here, but that is for good reason! They help you save money on just about everything, holidays included. You can look for Halloween City coupons to save money on costumes, look for craft store coupons to save money on decorations and costume necessities and don’t forget to check out our site for candy coupons for your candy bucket.
Thrift Store Shopping. You can save a lot of money on your costumes and decor by shopping at thrift stores for oftentimes pennies on the dollar. Be sure and check Goodwill and similar stores as well as they often carry brand new merchandise.
Dollar Store Shopping. Halloween decor isn’t up long at all so you don’t have to worry about the quality of your decorations. For this reason, I highly suggest shopping at the dollar stores for much of your decor.
Get your pumpkins at farm stands. Farm stand produce is often far less expensive than grocery store produce. Last year I was able to buy 4 pumpkins for just $8, which was the cost of 2 at the grocery store!
Right now at Amazon, you can preorder the Peanuts Holiday Anniversary Collection (BD) [Blu-ray] for just $19.96!
CELEBRATE THE HOLIDAYS WITH THESE TIMELESS PEANUTS CLASSICS! It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown: Will this Halloween be the one when the Great Pumpkin comes? Longtime believer Linus thinks so, and keeps watch all night in the pumpkin patch to welcome him. Charlie Brown gets into the spooky spirit too, dressing up as a ghost with more eyeholes than needed, but not scaring up the usual kinds of Halloween loot when trick-or-treating. Never fear, World War I fighting ace Snoopy is here to battle the Red Baron, and in doing so, crash Violet’s Halloween party and Linus’ vigil as well. Your whole family will be glad it crashed this party. Good grief, you can’t help but have a happy Halloween! A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving: Two slices of toast, a handful of jellybeans, some pretzels … not quite what comes to mind when you think of Thanksgiving dinner? It’s not what Peppermint Patty imagines either, but that’s what she gets when she invites herself over to Charlie Brown’s house for a turkey-day feast. After chastising “Chuck” for providing such a meager meal, she ends up eating more than her words and gains a few pounds of emotional sustenance. She also learns a little bit about the true meaning of the holiday. And you will too. Invite yourself to Charlie Brown’s for dinner this Thanksgiving with A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. Featuring two bonus episodes- The Mayflower Voyagers and Play It Again, Charlie Brown- and the chance to see Charlie Brown attempt to kick that football, you won’t want to miss this classic. So take a pilgrimage to your living room and join Snoopy, Woodstock, Linus, Sally and the rest of the gang, right here! A Charlie Brown Christmas: Christmastime is here. Happiness and cheer. And for Peanuts fans everywhere, it just wouldn’t be Christmas without this classic holiday delight. Christmas lights may be twinkling red and green, but Charlie Brown has the Yuletide blues. To get in the holiday spirit, he takes Lucy’s advice and directs the Christmas play. And what’s a Christmas play without a Christmas tree? But everyone makes fun of the short, spindly nevergreen Charlie Brown brings back – until the real meaning of Christmas works its magic once again.
