Affordable Birthday Present Ideas

birthday

Do you absolutely love celebrating birthdays? Well, so do we! In fact, we love celebrating birthdays so much that we decided to throw up a post on how you can celebrate birthdays on a budget. More specifically, we’re going to present you with a few affordable birthday present ideas because let’s face it, there are a lot of birthdays to pay for during the year and sometimes we run a little low on money. If you’re interested in this and want to know more, go ahead and scroll down. Some cool and affordable birthday present ideas await.

Make Something

The first affordable birthday present idea that we have for you is to make something. It could be a card, a lamp shade, or whatever you want it to be. It may cost you a few dollars for the supplies that you need but the birthday boy (or girl) is sure to love how much effort and time you put into their gift. After all, it’s the thought that counts and not the money.

Buy Something Used

The title says it all but we’re going to give you a specific example. Let’s say that the person in question is a college student that is living on their own. Why not buy them a used TV? How about a used couch? Play around with a few ideas and see what you come up with. If you know there is something that they need, they certainly won’t complain about whether or not the item was bought brand new. Just avoid buying stuff like used pillows.

Gift Card

The third idea that we have for you is a pretty common one. How about a gift card? You don’t have to spend $100 or even $50 on a gift card. You can swing by Subway and pick up a $10 gift card which anyone is sure to appreciate. After all, that’ll buy 2 foot long subs or 4 of the 6 inch subs. It doesn’t have to be Subway either as that was just a mere example.

Phone Call

Finally, the last tip we have for you is this. If you don’t have money for a gift and don’t feel like you can come up with the next best thing, give that person a call on their birthday. As mentioned above, it’s the thought that counts and we’re pretty sure they’ll appreciate the fact that you even remembered their birthday to begin with. So, pick up your phone and give them a call. If you’re feeling extra generous, you could sing to them.

And that’s how you celebrate someone’s birthday on a budget! Looks like we were right after all, huh? You can most definitely give someone a birthday gift without spending a ton of money. Now, do you want to get ready for next year? If so, go check out some of our money saving tips and ensure that next year you can buy them one sweet b-day gift!

Happy 40th Birthday Egg McMuffin – Tips for Making The Egg McMuffin At Home

If you’ve ever had to grab breakfast on the run chances are you too may have indulged in McDonald’s Egg McMuffin. The Egg McMuffin made it’s debut in 1972 and it’s recipe has remained a staple in the McDonald’s breakfast line up ever since. This year McDonald’s celebrates 40 years of serving up one of America’s favorite breakfast sandwiches.

Although it may be easy to swing through the drive through to grab this tasty breakfast sandwich, it is just as easy to assemble in your very own kitchen.

You only need a few ingredients.

1 large egg
English muffin
1 slice Canadian bacon
1 slice American cheese
butter cooking spray

Directions:
You will also need an Egg Ring, or a tuna can with the top and bottom off.

Pre-heat an electric griddle to 275 degrees.

Toast your english muffin by laying both sides face down on the griddle and applying pressure with spatula. This takes 1 to 1½ minutes.(they should be medium brown)
Set aside.

Lay your egg ring/can on the pre-heated grill.
Spray with Pam to prevent sticking. Crack the egg and pour into ring on the grill. Poke the yolk with a sharp instrument so it flows.

Butter both toasted halves of the english muffin liberally with melted butter.
Put a slice of American cheese on the bottom half.

2 to 2½ minutes after you started cooking the egg, the whites should firm up, and the yolk should still be a bit”liquidy”. Add a small amount of water to the pan and cover for about 30 seconds. This will result in a partially fried/poached egg. (Just like the Egg McMuffin) Carefully remove the ring, leaving the egg on the griddle. You may have to”slice” around the edges if it sticks.

Lay one slice of Canadian bacon on the griddle. After about 30-45 seconds,”flip” the Canadian bacon, and remove the egg, placing it on the bottom half (cheesed half) of the english muffin.

Place the Canadian bacon on top of the cooked egg, and cover with the top of the toasted english muffin.

There you have it an Egg McMuffin in the comforts of your home!

Happy 108th Birthday Dr. Seuss

If you think back to your childhood you just might remember being read to from one of the many children’s books written by the well known author, Dr. Seuss. As a child I loved his books. The imaginative words that always made sense seemed to sing me to sleep at night as the words fell upon my ears.

Even now my children love his books and I love reading them to them. I remember taking my children to the library and my second oldest son would quickly gather as many Dr. Seuss books as he could find and then head straight to the front desk to check them out.

Theodore Geisel, also known as,Dr. Seuss, became famous for his use of rhyming prose and unique illustrations in the books he wrote for children. Although Dr. Seuss never had any children of his own, he went on to publish over 40 children’s books, win three Academy Awards and was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1984.

In his own creative way he discussed real life issues with wisdom that even a child could understand. Some of his well known titles include, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”, “Oh the Places You’ll Go”, and “Green Eggs and Ham.”

“Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.”
― Dr. Seuss, Happy Birthday to You!

So what better way could there be to celebrate than to take time to read to a child today. Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

C is for Celebrate! It’s Cookie Monster’s Birthday – Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

It’s true, today is the one and only Cookie Monster’s Birthday. This fun fact brings back memories of sitting in my child size rocking chair watching Sesame Street. I loved it then and my children love it now.

Each year on November 2nd Cookie Monster celebrates his birthday. You may never guess by his appearance but this year he turns 42. When he first appeared on the popular television show back in 1969 along side Kermit the Frog the public was introduced to this crazed cookie eater who at the time was gobbling down letters. This furry blue monster is known to eat just about anything but when he first joined the show he didn’t have an official name. His name caught on later when Cookie Monster became famous for saying, “Me eat cookies!”

So take a minute and celebrate Cookie Monster’s birthday! Whip up a batch of this American Icon’s favorite cookie, grab a glass of milk and enjoy an episode of Sesame Street with your preschooler. Happy Birthday Cookie Monster!
